Independence will explore potential expansion of renewable energy through a resolution approved by the City Council at its April 16th meeting.
The resolution directs the City Manager to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for "projects supporting energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy sources."
Independence Power and Light, the city-owned electric enterprise, has increasingly invested in wind power and also undertaken an ambitious community solar program which it projects will be the largest in the Missouri once the Rockwood community solar project is completed.
The resolution refers to a July 2014 resolution supporting increased energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy sources.
