Speakers include two leading energy experts in the region

Ashok Gupta - Senior Energy Economist, Natural Resource Defense Council
Gupta will discuss Evergy’s strategic plan to accelerate closure of its coal-fired plants. Its Iatan 2 plant (north of Weston) currently provides about 25% of IPL’s power through a long-term purchase power agreement through 2050. What would early closure of the Iatan 2 plant mean for IPL.

James Owen - Executive Director, Renew Missouri
Owen will discuss the major recent announcement by the Grain Belt Express which could make more renewable energy available in Missouri and Kansas.

Doug Cowan - President and CEO, Community Services League
Cowan will provide an update on the city of Independence’s efforts to provide $2.2 million in CARES funding for city-owned utilities.
