Columbia, Mo. issues renewable energy report

The city of Columbia, Mo. - a municipal-owned utility - has issued its annual renewable energy report.

The report, required by city ordinances, provides a detailed look at how the public utility is diversifying its energy supply.

In 2013, Columbia had almost 7% of its energy portfolio coming from renewable sources.

A voter approved ordinance sets out a goal of 30% renewable energy by 2028 for the mid-Missouri community.

The ordinance states the cost of renewable energy can not make utility rates increase by more than 3%.

The 2014 report shows the status of Columbia's efforts.
